Is iTunes on a computer needed for any iPad related stuff once 5.0 is installed?

Would love to delete it for ever...

Most people who hate iTunes run it on Windows.

On Windows, it IS butt slow and a resource hog.

Not so much on a Mac.

What would you use instead of iTunes? I will be genuinely surprised if you can name a better program for your music library.

With iOS5 you can stream content from your computer running iTunes+HomeSharing now. Keep all the films on the computer and just stream them to your iPhone/Pad/TV when you want them, or when iTunes gets the latest podcast episodes for you. No reason to get rid of iTunes

Music.app > more > shared

I would be genuinely surprised if you’ve ever heard of the better programs I could name...

Spotify.

Much more responsive than iTunes. It'll play local files without ads + it'll stream anything you don't own, with ads every five songs or so.

As for if you can delete iTunes yet, I think the answer is no... as much as I despise iTunes, I have to admit that accessing and browsing the iTunes Stores is easier in iTunes than on the iPhone.

The funny thing is that a streaming service does indeed work more smoothly than a player which plays local files.
