Ever since the whole fiasco a year ago with Apple throttling users with degraded batteries, people have become more aware of battery life and how they believe batteries work.

Let's begin:

You cannot compare 1 iPhone user to another. Everyone uses their iPhone's differently, I can get xx:xxhrs of screen on time and you'll get something completely different with similar usage. There are too many factors.

- how was your cell phone signal?
- how many notifications did you receive?
- what kind of climate do you live in?
- what tracking services are enabled on your device?
- what's your battery health? (we'll get into this more below)

... and there's more

Battery Health Setting:

Probably the best but also worst thing that Apple could have done. People losing their minds because their health drops from 100% to 99%.. I get it, you want your device to be perfect and you don't wanna be throttled. However, we have to consider the 2 most important things when it comes to the health of the battery... cycle count and usage.

The more you charge your iPhone the faster it loses its health. You simply can't avoid this because in order to use your device your battery will degrade degrade over time.

Users A and B can unbox a brand new iPhone on day 1, and 30 days later have completely different battery health.

It's not an Apple conspiracy, it's science.

What I'm getting at is that there's way too many factors to consider when it comes to battery life. Stop stressing out of small % that are pretty much out of your control (if you wanna use your device that is) and enjoy your phones.

I agree there should be a sticky on “battery health”. Those apps just encourage OCD. Batteries will always deplete over time.

I’d only ever check battery health if I’m having a serious issue with battery life.

Threads like this and people asking “is it worth it to buy X phone now or wait” will never go away. A lot of people join the forum to make their post, and don’t want to search for previous posts on the topic. I agree that battery tech is confusing to a lot of people. At the end of the day, a battery is $50 or so. That’s less than 1 day worth of pay for everyone, even those who work at Target or McDs. I say use the hell out of your phone and you’ll be ok for 18-24 months. I used to always baby my phone, only to get rid of it after less than a year. I feel so free to use my phone now and not make sure I keep it between 40-80%. I had a bad case of battery ocd. Apple should let us know our cycle count. That’s way more important to me than their health estimate (which I don’t trust)
