I mean, there is a TEAM of 6 figure engineers who work on this, right? Like, what are they thinking? A user interface button that MOVES around the screen and you have to play tag to catch it? What exactly was wrong with the old interface, which actually worked? Anybody home? It's been 2 years I think, since they switched it, and QR code use has only increased with the pandemic and restaurant menus. Why is this SO terrible?

Not too sure what you're referring to. If you mean using the Camera to access QR codes, it seems to work well enough.

Not to sound rude, but you're doing it wrong. You don't have to play tag to catch it... ;)

If you move the QR code out of frame, the yellow button will move to the bottom.

Or, you can always tap the QR code icon in the lower-right corner and take action from there.

I agree. While you don't have to chase it around, it definitely should be a smoother experience. I think the default action should be to put it at the bottom of the screen when detected.

I don't bother going to the camera app to scan QR codes because of the inelegance of their approach. I added the QR code scanner to control center instead and use that.

Thanks - never thought of moving the target out of frame, I would expect that to simply make it stop working. Weird, if that's how they designed it. I've often tried to hit that small link at the bottom right, but usually nothing happens until the 3-4th time I hit it. So my QR code experience (iPhone 13 Pro) has been very frustrating since the change in behavior. I was just working on a client's old iOS 13 phone today and had to scan a QR code and it worked so easily and quickly, it frustrated me. Will try the "remove code from shot" trick - how would anyone know that trick? And again.... why not just have a big button show up on screen from the outset, because it *does* chase around the frame if you keep the code in the frame.

They took it from a good system to a bad one. So weird.

There is that persistent small button in the corner that is an option instead of using the one that you have to "chase" around the screen. That button stays in place and gives more options as to what to do with the code. If you use the Code Scanner that you can add to the Control Center, you get exactly what you want: big buttons at the bottom. Except for URLs. Those auto-load up in Code Scanner's web browser, but you can then do other things with the link from there.

EDIT: I had to look up how iOS 13 handled these and found a good video, for anyone who's wondering what the difference is between then and now.

Yeah, some things aren't always intuitive. I figured maybe you already knew this, but just in case you don't...you can also just tap the QR code itself rather than trying to tap the smaller button that appears below it.

That's a good point, I had forgotten about that. I wish this method would keep the app open in the App Switcher though, or open right away in Safari. Once you leave, it's gone for good...unless you remember to tap Safari icon first. I suppose the way they have it implemented now helps safeguard you from malicious or unintended sites.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to add the QR scanner to the control center. I am literally a computer expert, helping my clients (home users and small businesses) with everything computer related. I don’t have time to read for hours, about the new features of iOS, so it’s very frustrating when they take a feature that works away and make me do research to figure out how to get back to where I was. Thanks for helping
