I don't have my watch yet because I was a giant sucker who ordered the SS w/ black sport band ;) But I've thought that the pairing of the watch with the phone is one of the biggest underreported things about the watch. That the watch requires no computer to set up is something else. It's happened slowly, but now someone can get an iPhone, iPad, and Watch and be completely connected and do what they need to do without ever owning a desktop computer or laptop.

I seem so dramatic but the pairing (Especially the synchronization when it was finished) gave me chills.

Masterfully done.

P.S. That SS is one of the nicest watches out there. Congratulations

Small thing, but WHOA. Actually made my jaw drop. It seemed so futuristic and was just ****ing cool. The watch's animations are simply A++
My wife's watch never showed that; the screen never came up. It may have been user error, she was trying to do this as we were driving home. She had to enter the number and go that route. It was easy enough to the point that is makes me wonder, why develop that visual technology at all? It's not like the manual entry is a 32 char alpha numeric number or something...just 6 digits, IIRC. That being said, it popped up on my watch just fine and was indeed mega cool.

I don't have mine yet either because I ordered it at 12:06 and got the SG sport. Damn credit card info didn't have billing info#. But my friend got his Green Sport and we made an unboxing video below.

Odd. Maybe the motion stopped the process

#ITalkLikeIHaveAnyIdeaWhatImSaying LOL

happy you both got it at the same time though.

Yeah the animation was awesome. I would love to see that as one of the watches faces.

I can't believe the Apple watch puts a second app on your phone that you can't remove - grrrrrr.

I've been looking forward to this ever since I saw the certificate of authenticity for the Rose Gold watch in the Wired Article. http://www.wired.com/2015/04/the-apple-watch/

It's been my iPhone 6 Plus & iPad Air 2 wallpaper ever since.

Perhaps it's the years of Apple experience with a vast number of products, but I wasn't that impressed with the animation.

I would have been more surprised if it didn't have the animation. Apple has always featured nice animations going back many years.

I was super impressed, so much so that I took a photo. Hang on while I get it off the camera card...

Edit: damn it, I don't seem to have got any shots of the animation. This is all I got:

Fortunately, someone else has captured it here.

I didn't get an animation when I tried pairing mine. I powered the watch off then back on and this time I got the animation during pairing.

I haven't found a straight answer regarding whether taking the photo of the screen is literally what pairs the watch to the phone, or if it's just kind of a special effect and the actual pairing is done in some other way.

I think the dots on the screen is some sort of unique QR code. Imagine the code is your serial # of your watch.

Regardless, I thought it was really cool and hope apple uses it for more devices in the future.

Yeh it was pretty special. Everything from opening the box to setting up the watch was spot on.
