Say for instance I want to try out a new iPhone, but then I wanted to return it because I felt the old iPhone was almost as good. If traded-in my old iPhone at the time of purchase of the new iPhone, I wouldn’t have the old one anymore!

I wonder if Apple would let me trade-in the old iPhone a week or so after I bought the new iPhone??

You can still trade-in your old iPhone after getting a new iPhone, but you’ll have to use the trade-in credit you receive on a future purchase instead of applying it towards your recent phone purchase.

... unless your not dealing with Apple directly. Not sure what the policies at other stores may be.

Of course you could also get lucky and find a retail employee who is willing to retroactively add the trade-in credit to your purchase. If you pursue that route I’d recommend being open about your intentions when buying your phone. It’s possible a retail employee could work out a deal for you if you give them a heads up.
