If you have two users setup on ATV, can each user sign into their own accounts for apps like Netflix or Amazon? This is less of an issue for Netflix because I think you can choose a profile but how is this done for Amazon Prime and other apps? I don't want my watch history or recommendations to be based on another user's watch history. I want my Amazon Prime login to only be available for my user account on ATV.

I don't have Apple TV but I'm doing some research to see if it's worth it or whether I'm better off using a Mac Mini.

Thanks

You can set up different users on an ATV, but this is more useful for Apple Movies and pictures.

With that being said, my wife and I are both set up on all our ATV’s and we have Amazon Prime, Netflix, Paramount+, Disney+, etc. All have both of our profiles set up. So if she’s using the ATV in the living room and opens Netflix, she chooses her profile.

If you want to keep them totally separate then use separate ATV’s.

After posting my question, I came across this:
It seems that you cannot log into different Amazon Prime accounts even if you create separate users on ATV. Is that correct?

Correct. You’ll have to log out of account 1 and log into account 2. Which is where profiles come into use.

Again, if you want to keep them completely separate, use two devices. Only way around it.

The Apple TV is the most expensive of the mass market streaming products, by far, it’s also the most stagnant Apple product I ever purchased. There has been zero innovation in TV OS for years, just incremental improvements mostly enabled by increased chip speeds.

Fast forward, rewind, pause etc seem to work differently in some Apps, Siri is as useless on Apple TV as it is on other OSes, plus it appears that app developers can disable Siri if they want, see MLB for example - “hey Siri, take me to the top of the fifth in today’s Royals game”, “hey Siri, skip two minutes“ not only do these requests not work, there isn’t any feedback that they don’t work.

At least you can swap accounts inside the Apps, I don’t think we will see multi-user accounts as you’d like because Apple would have to then implement it in iOS and iPad too, which could ultimately lead to reduced sales if people don’t need their own. I can’t imagine Phil Shiller sitting back in his armchair using this product as we might … if the other hardware options have what you’re looking for take it back.

You could use the Apps on your smart TV for user 1 and the Apple TV for user 2 if you want and your home entertainment is set up appropriately…
