Long story short, my 2011 27" iMac has had a fair number of headphones and whatnot plugged in and out of the headphone jack over the years and slowly but surely the headphone jack started to become looser and looser and today it finally died so the only audio output I can get on my iMac comes from the physical external speakers.

Short of taking this monstrous computer in to the store to be fixed, is there any way I can re-assign the audio input jack (right next to the headphone jack) so that it can be used as an audio output jack instead of audio in? Is this at all possible? Or am I doomed?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
