Can you boot off Time machine?

So if you lost everything; can you boot of your time machine hard drive?
 
I believe the answer is no: you need your Leopard install DVD which will be able to restore from the backup. If you want bootable backups you still need SuperDuper!/CarbonCopyCloner.
