Can you buy an apple gift card with an apple gift card?

I plan on buying an apple card off craigslist and will be doing it at an apple store. Can I buy a gift card with that card just for security purposes (seller redeeming afterwards)?

I doubt it, though I'm not positive. What you could do is buy merchandise right away, and then return it immediately or later for a store credit.

Or just do the obvious and merge both gift cards at the Apple Store. Have the seller on CL meet you at the Apple Store, confirm the funds are valid, and then give him the cash. Merge the value onto another gift card to prevent the number being used.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to barring intransigence on Apple's part.
