Can you buy iPhone 5S off contract on Verizon?

If it follows the same pricing that T-mobile has it'll be $649 for the 16gb, $749 for the 32gb and $849 for the 64gb

It's talked about every year but I'll say it again...the phone companies in America really like to screw us. Verizon will not offer me any discount on a new iPhone 5S since I am only one year into my contract. That's fine, I get it. But what doesn't make sense is that it's cheaper for me to cancel my Verizon contract, pay the ETF of $240, and buy the phone from another provider at $200 than it would be to buy the phone at full price for $649 from Verizon. In short, it's cheaper for me to leave Verizon. And what's even more annoying is that they don't care because the cell companies in the US are all in bed together and know there is no real competition.

I'm not whining that Verizon won't offer me a discount. I fully expect that and understand that. What I think is absurd is that they make it cheaper for customers to leave. I think I'd be happier knowing my ETF was $500 and therefore made sense for me to stay with Verizon.

You're exactly right. I port my numbers back and forth between AT&T and Verizon annually and I make money purchasing the newest iPhone on subsidized pricing and selling last years model (even when paying ETFs).

I'm guessing you don't get Unlimited Data with either company?

But will they let you buy off contract in-store on release day? I've bought off contract with preorders the last two years on Verizon's website, but never in-store.

Yes. That's what I did with my iphone 5. Walked into store and paid full price day 1. However, it will depend on how much each individual store has in stock. Corporate stores will have a larger supply than franchise stores.

Is it unlocked? does it work with AT&A or T-mobile GSM carriers?
If it does, I will definitely get one instead of unlocked 5s directly from Apple.

What about Apple Retail; has anyone heard if Apple Retail will permit sales of Verizon iPhone 5s at full retail / month to month / off contract pricing?

I haven't had unlimited data for several years now. It would be nice but I don't use very much data anyway. Currently I have a 1 GB plan and never get close to my limit.

If the Verizon 5S is unlocked AND gets the LTE signal for both ATT and Tmobile, then I would think that the 5S version is the phone to get.

Educate me on this. What is the difference between purchasing unlock from Apple versus unlock from Verizon, knowing that Verizon is CDMA. Only the GSM feature on a Verizon phone can be used abroad and not within the U.S.

I need to know because I'll be purchasing my parents an unlocked 5S. I was planning on getting it through Apple until I read your post.

verizon knocked the prices of the iPhone 5 by ~$100. at least my local VZ store did. so i could get a brand new iPhone 5 64GB for $729 no contract. i decided to get a lightly used one on eBay for $528 though which included 2 cases, and 2 lightning cables lol

So best place to get new iPhone 5s is from apple website??? Im under contract with verizon so i might just pay full price. Do I have to specify Im with Verizon? Last question how long will I be waiting if i order on the 20th from apple website? Thanks for all the help
