I need to buy a replacement back for my brother's iPhone 4. Anyone had any luck getting these at the Apple store? I won't have the phone with me so I'm hoping they will just sell me the part.

Just curious--do they give you a particular reason why they won't do it?

yes they will sell you any part you would like for the Iphone 4.

Price: $199 w/2 yr contract

I never really cared enough to ask, but it's probably one/all of the following:

-If they sold you the part they wouldn't be able to charge you for labor,
-Requests for individual parts are rare, so it's not financially reasonable to carry a stock,
-Selling you a part implies they trust you enough to fix it yourself. This mentality is completely incompatible with Applecare. If you break something and try to pass it off as a warranty repair it wastes their time and money.
