I want to take a backup copy of the apps I've downloaded from the mac app store.

From what I can tell, the apps/package are in the Applications folder in Finder.

Is it as simple as just copying the app icon from the Applications folder to my backup location (probably memory stick for safe keeping)?

Will this back up the entire app?

You do know you can reinstall applications that you've paid for if you need to? (With the restriction that the application must still be available for sale.)

And have you thought about using Time Machine (or something else) to back up your Mac so the whole system is backed up?

I do use Time Machine to regularly back up my MBP.

I'll stick with that backup - wont do the individual backups as obviously not necessary.
