Hi,

I am running FCE 3.5 on a macbook (intel duo, 1gb ram 1.83ghz)
Before i splash out lots of money on a panasonic hdc-sd1 does anybody know if will it be possible for me to export the AVCHD files from imovie 08 as a Final Cut XML file and then edit them using FCE 3.5?

Can FCE edit Apple Intermediate Codec? If so, I think it would work. I've read where someone used iMovie'08 to import AVCHD (converted to AIC), and then used the AIC with iMovie'06.

Keep in mind that you will need an Intel Mac to use AVCHD. Oops, just noticed that you are on an Intel Mac.

Cheers ft,
I'll check out the AIC thing and see if it is possible - if it works with imovie 06 it should be ok with FCE i would have thought....

it works!

yup tried and tested, this method works a treat, you have to reconnect the files once you have imported the .xml file into FCE which is a bit of a drag but only takes a few seconds per clip.

Anybody know which of the available compressors in FCE works best with AVCHD?
