Can you forward your calls if you sell your phone?

So if I turn on call forwarding and then sell my iPhone 4 will I be able to turn off call forwarding again after I get the iPhone 5?
I'm trying to minimize the inconvenience of being without a phone for a week but I'm concerned that there'll be some technicality that the same phone needs to be used or something like that.

why not find any old phone that you might have around and pop in the sim card? ( assuming its a GSM), if not i would call ur provider and give them the number you want to forward calls too , I dont see any problems with that
