I'm planning on buying a MD199J/A Japanese version of the Apple TV Gen 3 while living in Japan. If I take it back with me to the US and set it to a U.S. iTunes account will it support Netflix automatically or is the firmware region encoded to not allow that sort of thing? It would be much easier to just buy one locally rather than importing a U.S. model to Japan.

It will support Netflix, just set the country to USA in the settings and the app should appear.

Heck, you could get it right away using this service anywhere in the world.

Thanks, Pressure.

Can I switch back and forth between watching Japanese movies and U.S. movies from itunes if I have both countries' accounts?

You will have to change account every time in settings, which can get quite annoying.
