Can you have phone speaker emit sounds while headphones are plugged in?

So this is a simple yes (with explanation, also not opposed to jailbreaking but it would be my first device) or no question. Would like to hear notifications and calls while headphones are plugged but not being used, similar to alarms.

Apologies if this has been addressed in the forums before or is just an obvious answer (either way I clearly missed something).

Alarms and call ringtones will sound from speaker but notifications will not. So far, there is no method to allow notification tones to be heard.

This is a major gripe for me. I use bluetooth earbuds and don't always have them in my ear so I miss notifications. I'm hoping a dev will find a way.
