I am in need of an external display for my laptop. I have narrowed it down between these two.

LG

Acer

The Acer is 20" Widescreen with 8ms response time and the LG is 19" Widescreen with 5ms response time. I would also like to add that I will be getting an Elgato eyeTV Hybrid and I will probably be using this thing as my TV from now on.

Are these as good as the apple cinema displays? I may be shopping for a display very soon to go with a macbook so I'm also keen to here what people think.
Thanks

I think they are both good monitors for what you pay. I would go with the ACER myself. Better resolution plus it has DVI rather than just VGA. Either one will be OK.

If you don't need the LCD right away, I would wait until the next Dell Days of Deals. Both of the LCDs you identified have TN panels which are not so great. The Dell 2007WFP has the same panel as the 20" Apple Cinema Display (S-IPS) and during the Dell sales, usually drops to $329, sometimes to $299.

All prices listed in Canadian funds :)

wow, so why are ACDs so expensive?

You pay a premium for the name, just like a pair of running shoes or a television. The Apple looks a little nicer, given the aluminum casing, but it's not twice the price nicer. I myself am waiting for the next Dell Days to get myself an LCD.

You have to pay back taxes on the Apple logo, it has nothing to do with the screen.:)

If you can wait, the Dell screens are awesome. If not, as already pointed out, I think the Acer is the better deal as well: higher resolution, dvi connection, analog & digital, and one inch bigger.
