I am trying to decide between the 15 Plus and 15 PM. I am aware of all the tradeoffs between phones and still undecided. I have some specific questions regarding the cameras and I have seen conflicting info on YouTube.

1. The PM has the same sensor as the 14PM whereas the Plus actually has a new sensor that allows more light. PM f/1.78 vs Plus f/1.60. Does this result in better photos off the main lens of the Plus?

2. While the Plus does not have macro mode, its camera does allow you to get a fair amount closer to the object before losing focus compared to the PM. The PM will need to switch into macro mode. Can this be seen as an advantage to the Plus? Less missed shots or distorted shots by chance?

3. Do you keep night mode on knowing when it does kick in, it drops the megapixels down to 12? Or, do you leave it off to always have the 24mp default (or 48 should you not mind 100mb photos)? Not sure which would give better photos.

Thanks for any feedback you can share!

1. The sensor of the 15 is newer but smaller than the 15 Pro sensor. Most tests show a littel advantage on the Pro´s side.
2. If you take most of you images at the distance where the pro switches to macro mode the Plus would be better, in all other circumstances i would prefer the flexibility of the pro.
3. Depends on what you want your image to look like, with night mode the image usually comes out brighter, without night mode noise and missing detail can be a problem if it´s very dark.

just to add, does the front facing camera lens or quality vary between 15 PM and the 15 plus ? i am not sure but i think i noticed a bright tone on PM compared to plus so just checking the technical differences between these

It may be added that when shooting in (Pro)RAW you can still get a lot of details out of dark images and the overall quality might be better than with night mode enabled since the risk of a blurred image is smaller.

I rarely use night mode for that reason, they usually don't turn out that great without any kind of stabilization like a tripod etc.

The 15 Plus sensor is only 2/3 the size of the sensor on the PM and will capture less light as a result. The larger f-stop number on the Plus is misleading since the Plus is also a slightly longer 26mm equivalent lens compared to the 24mm equivalent lens on the Max. The Max still has the better main camera (as it should for its price).
