I'm trying to allow my iMac to dual screen to a monitor with DVI input. I'm having trouble identifying what port on my iMac is necessary. I thought it was "displayport" but I ended up buying the wrong adapter:

I believe I have a 2008 iMac (or perhaps 2007 refurb) and the port is more squarish than the adapter I bought. Here is a picture of the port: http://cl.ly/FcaA

Can anyone tell me the name of this port and/or a link to a good Displayport to DVI adapter?

You need a Mini DVI to DVI adapter:
Mini DVI
Mini DVI is a digital common interface on the later G4 12" PowerBook, on Intel iMacs till 2009 and on the white and black pre-Unibody MacBooks and on Intel Mac minis before they changed the design to Unibody.
