I just purchased an iPhone(not planning on putting it on a carrier, just use it like an iPod touchwith wifi) can I jailbrake it with jailbrakeme.com?

Yes, you can. Any iPhone on 3.0-4.0.1 can be jailbroken using jailbreakme.com. I don't know where celticpride gets his info, but it's not good. You will need a SIM to activate it, though.

Probably a better way of doing it would be to use redsn0w to both jailbreak and unlock. It can also hacktivate the phone, so you will not need a SIM. Probably the best solution.

The iPhone 2G is not on any of the lists I've found: http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...one-4-jailbreak-possible-from-device-2010081/

No you cannot. Because the iPhone 2G does not exist. Non existent devices can not be jailbroken.

just downgraded my homies original iphone to 3.1.2 today and used jailbreakme.com to do the dirty work...worked flawless.

Hacktivating made my YouTube not work. I used my iPhone 4 sim on my iPhone and then used jailbreakme.

Ok Captain Semantics. I'm pretty sure 1) you know what he means and 2) you aren't helping at all.

Thankfully, others have answered his question for him.

Thanks to the people who acctually answered the question :)
