Ive taken a gap in the apple product ownership. It used to be in the old days when I had the ipod touch, that you needed to backup a soft copy for yourself because you cant redownload old movies. Apps I think you can redownload?

How about nowadays? Can you redownload movies, apps and songs as many times as you want on your device in case you reinstall the PC or do you need to do a backup of all the music and movies?

More or less, they encourage you to use their cloud. Maybe I'm wrong.

In iTunes, I know you can download songs if you have previously purchased them. As I recall you go into your account settings and its under purchase history I think.
Not sure about films as I don't buy films through iTunes.

What do you mean by more or less?

I believe GoCubsGo means yes :). I have no problems re-downloading music, video, and apps although you have to be careful about apps. Apple only keeps the latest version of an app so you can get in trouble if your device is no longer compatible with the latest version of an app.

In any case, it doesn't hurt to keep a backup.
