hi
ive been using windows pcs for years.
now have bought a macbook.

theoretically speaking, if i install dodgy pirated software on the mac, and it starts to play up.........is it possible to just wipe the hard drive and start again? like a clean reformat like you can do on the pc?
like wiping the internal hard drive.....and re-installing leopard again.......

is this ok? simple procedure?

cheers

yes its very simple. you can just use the restore/reinstall disks that came with your macbook. they should be in the box some where. the procedure is pretty simply to figure out. just click a few buttons and your on your way.

Yes, it's relatively easy, just make sure you have all your legit software serials and dmgs on an external to make a reinstall easier.

You could just do a clone to an external too, and if you jack up the internal, just clone from the external to the internal.

ya it's really easy

btw> even if you do download dogey software you're probably not going to have any problems. just check out the comments/review of the torrents and don't look for fergie's sex tape.

Check here.

To reinstall Mac OS X:

Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.

Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).

Click Options. If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.” If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.

Click Continue.

Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).

if your just looking to remove one program you could try something like appzapper. just a great job.

http://appzapper.com/

yeah that look good.
i would have thought it was easy to uninstall apps from OSX itself......but it leaves loads of stray files eh? like pc too.....but theyre easy to find on pc and so i just delete manuallly.

most apps are all bundled within the .app but some apps do live stray files, which is where an app like appzapper comes in handy.

But in OS X there is no registry to get all mucked up by installing and uninstalling programs. The stray files are (normally) harmless.

It's really nothing to be concerned about. Once you drag the app to the trash, there may be a few miniscule preference files left, but they don't cause any harm.
