Can you repair a Leopard hard disk with a Snow Leopard DVD?

My Macbook's disk needs repairing however I've lost my Leopard install DVD and my cloned backup drive is causing kernel panics when booting.

If I was to purchase Snow Leopard, would the disk utility in the installer disk be able to fix a problem with the Leopard disk? I'm just concerned about any incompatibilities which may occur.

Yup, it would be able to handle that, no problem.
