Does anyone know of a free way to replace contacts from the iPhone 6 directly to an iMac?

When you have your iPhone connected to your Mac, I think there's an option in iTunes under the iPhone Information panel to download new contacts to the Mac for that/next sync.

I you don't want to use iCloud, you can search the app store for "vcard" and find some free apps that will let your export the contacts as a standard VCARD file. Then email that to yourself and OS X Contacts can then import the vcard file.
