OK, this sounds very unlikely, but there is a cable for everything nowadays. I have an Alpine head unit that I connect my iPhone 3G to. It no longer charges my iPhone but will still play my music. I want to charge my iPhone while driving because I do long commutes. I have to disconnect my iPhone from the head unit to charge it to the cigarette lighter charger. I want to split my iPhone cable so that I can plug it into my head unit and my cigarette lighter charger at the same time. Can I? I am also patiently awaiting the Ridax charge converter. Thanks

While it is physically possible, but I doubt there is actually any USB power connections in the cable of which you speak, only the 12V Firewire connection. You should just invest in the safe iPhone converter that you would put on the end of your head unit cable and it will convert the voltage to 5V, and connect it to the proper pins for you.

i don't see why not. black and red = power, the others = data

i'd try it on a spare before you rip up your iphone cable though ;)

He said he is waiting for the charger converter.

My advise is: Unless your a good hobbyist I would suggest waiting.
