I just had someine go pick up my new ipad 2 but do not have itunes at work. Can i use someone elses itunes on their laptop to at least get it up and running? I dont want to plug my ipad into his mac and have it sync his stuff to the ipad.

Yep. I'm on vacation and found an iPad in stock here so I picked one up. Dont have my MacBook with that I usually sync to, but I used my wife's to activate it and I'll just sync it up to mine next week when I get back home

I think you can 'activate' the iPad with any computer running iTunes, without syncing with that computer. Apple can activate it at an in-store computer for you because of this.

When I got my iPhone 4 I wasn't going to be home until that night, so they activated it on the spot. When I got home I synced it to my iTunes like normal.

here is how you do it

To turn on activation-only mode in Windows XP:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt StoreActivationMode 1

To turn on activation-only mode in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

"C:\Program Files (x64)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt StoreActivationMode 1

To turn off activation-only mode in Windows XP:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt StoreActivationMode 0

To turn off activation-only mode in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

"C:\Program Files (x64)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt StoreActivationMode 0

I use it to setup iPad for the company I work for.
