Let's say you want to add something to a previous post you made in a thread and notify the OP of what you added instead of creating a whole new post or sending them a PM. If you go to edit that previous post and add a tag (@[user_name]) to it and save the edit, will that member be notified (assuming they have notifications on for "mentions") or does that only work when you first post a comment?

Good question. It's easy enough to test. And do other post edits generate a new notification to the OP?

@usagora, hey I edited this post to add this.

I think it depends on which of the following notification options is prioritized over the others, and of course what the OP has selected.

Didn't work. I only received a notification that you quoted my post - never received a notification that you tagged/mentioned me in your edit. I have every single event checked for both Alert and Push in my user settings.

I'm guessing posting a quote from another member in an edit doesn't alert then either then.

OK so in this post I'm quoting you and I'm mentioning you. What shows in your notifications? I realize your question is about edited posts, but I'm curious about a double notification scenario. @usagora

Very interesting. Apparently the forum software is "smart" enough to know there's no point in sending a notification of a mention if you're already receiving a notification that you've been quoted for the same post, because I only received the quote alert:

And just to prove my settings are all as I said:

I just tested this and got the same result. No alert for an edited in @ mention.

Good to know. Too bad - it would come in handy. I've actually done it before and just assumed it was working, but wanted to know for sure. Good thing I asked!
