Hey, I've got an old Lacie Porsche external USB drive, looks nice, the HD croaked years ago but I've got a new SATA I'd like to toss in it, looks like there is just a simple SATA connector inside, plug and play, problem is I tried it and it didn't work. Wondering if this is doable? Do I need those old school drive jumper clips that designate the drive as slave or master type of thing?

I'm wondering if the ENCLOSURE is what "went bad" on you, and not the original HDD that was inside.

What I'd suggest:
Buy a USB3/SATA docking station.
These are cheap and plentiful -- many different ones available.

Use that to connect the new SATA drive to the Mac.
And while you're at it, try the OLD HDD "that croaked" -- it may suddenly come back alive.
