Can you tell by the box (I.e serial) if a MacBook Air is really new and still able to register AppleCare + ?

Someone local is selling an M1 MacBook Air and claimed to be new still sealed . Is there any way to tell without opening, if it’s still able to register AppleCare +?

My understanding is that the 60 day countdown to register AppleCare starts when first powering on the machine and connecting to the internet. Is that correct
