I've read mixed reviews about Apple's partner for their trade-in kits for Apple Watches. Can you simply walk in to an Apple Store and trade in an Apple Watch for an Apple gift card?

Yes. At least I was able to trade my SS S2 watch in for $125 this week for an AW4 at an Apple Store. Saved me the hassle of trying to sell it.

My wife did just that - traded in her S3 for an S4. And they put the money back on the credit card she used for the S3.

Thanks! Do you need to bring in the original box or band, or do you really just need the watch itself? The box for the SS S2 weighs like 5 pounds haha.

Same in UK. Got £195 on a gift card for my S3 SSSB and purchased my Nike+ SG 44mm :)

No box etc needed. Mine was an impulse purchase so literally took the watch off, removed the strap, unpaired in the store and then they took off me. They checked the Serial online and it came back clean and no iCloud lock etc. Body only given to them
