I have an old firewire external Lacie CD writer. The unit is basically an internal LG drive housed in a housing box with a firewire port and power port at the back. Does any one know if it is possible to upgrade the drive in the housing? Ideally I would like to replace the cd drive with an internal DVD+- writer of a similar size. Does any one know of this will work or if there is a way of making it work?

If so it would make a perfect and cheap external dvd writer at the price of an internal unit. The only problems I can see are posible driver problems as the new drive might work through the firewire connection.

If any one has done this or knows a way of doing it, post your knowledge here. Thanks
