Can you use an old Iphone 5 for facetime

Can you use an old Iphone 5 for facetime only with out it being connected to a carrier? I want to send it to my parents so we can facetime. Facetime is so much better than skype! If this is possible, can you provide details on how to get this to work!

i don't know if anything is different with the iPhone 5 but i'd assume it only needs to be connected to wifi to use FaceTime.

Sure you can, but like the other poster indicated, your parents would have to get the phone up on a good WiFi connection if there is no cellular.

This is how my family keeps in touch! Skype is horrible compared to FaceTime

yep. wifi plus best to have them have their own apple id for using FaceTime.

Yep iPhone 5 can do facetime on iOS 7 and iOS 8 but not on iOS6.
