iPod touch Can you use iTouch 2nd Gen 16GB for Texting

I am curious if I can use the 2nd Gen iTouch for texting when I am near WIFI, because I have my email setup and issues with my new iPhone that I am returning to ATT, so I was wondering if anyone has figured out to use the iTouch for texting without a service or data plan, I would be interested in finding this out.

There are some apps on iTunes you can use to send free text messages.

Yes you can I use my ipod touch 8gig often to text. Download an app called text free it costs $5.99 for unlimited text. You can also get the lite version of the app for free which allows you to send 20 text per day I believe.
