I've used migration assistance before to transfer things in bulk, like everything from my old macbook to my new macbook...

but I was wondering if I can transfer small, specific apps like my itunes library and my iphoto collection from my macbook to my new imac. does migration assistance give you an option like that when you use the ethernet chord?

No, but you can do it manually. iTunes can be transferred by copying the contents of ~/Music/iTunes and iPhoto ~/Pictures/[iPhoto something or other]. (~ is shorthand for your user home folder, and I don't use iPhoto so I don't know exactly what directory name it uses inside ~/Pictures. I'm sure you can figure it out.)

Ah, manually? could you create a step by step to do that? or a link that you might know of? id sincerely appreciate any help.
