Can you watch TV on a MacBook Pro 2.3 i5

I am purchasing a MacBook Pro 2.3 i5 for my daughter who is enrolling at UMSL this fall. This may sound simple, but I have a question: She wants a TV as well, but I am thinking I could somehow enable the Mac so she can watch TV on it, saving me the expense of an add'l purchase and her the dorm space. Is this possible? What software/hardware?
