Cancel Apple.com order, regain eligibility?

Hey guys and girls! I am thinking of canceling my online order (scheduled to deliver on Oct. 5th) and thinking of camping out Thursday evening to pick up a 5 for my wife and myself.

Question 1 - If I cancel my apple.com order, will I get my upgrade back fast?

Question 2 - If I (not with my wife) show up to the store on Friday morning, will I be able to upgrade and buy her a new phone without her there?
