Canceled Preorder But Got New Phone

I preordered two phones on apple.com, (2) 16gb white ones At&t. Been stuck on the Oct. 5th ship date. As of today no new updates. I took my chances after work about 5pm eastern time and went to my local Apple store. There was no lines at all. I walked right in and was helped right away. They seemed to have several phones left in stock. I told them I had two on preorder. They told me as long as they didn't go into prepare for shipping that then I could cancel and purchase new phones right away. I canceled my preorders there. I waited for the confirmation email showing they orders were canceled. Apple had a rep from every service provider there. The apple person had me show them I canceled my order then the at&t guy logged into his laptop and refreshed my eligibility status. then bam i purchased two new phones and walked out all within a half hour. I ended up getting 1 16gb and 1 32gb.

What apple store was this at? I wasn't aware every carrier was hanging at apple for launch.
