Alright, so I have an iPhone 3g on contract with AT&T.

What I want to do is cancel the contract. What's the best way to do it, and how do I do it?

If I cancel now, do I pay an ETF? But do I get to keep the phone?

I really don't understand.. help?

Just call up and tell them you want to cancel. This ends your service. If you're subject to ETF, you'll be billed that amount in your last bill.

Yes.

One hangup might be if you got the iPhone 3G. Since you're in your 30 days, they'll expect you to return the phone. So, you may have to wait 30 days to cancel.

Honestly, I don't believe they can make you return the phone. Look ath their return policy. It says that they can charge you the "Full price" of the device, which would probably be another $200.

I have been reading and reading about this, because I also want to do this. And these are my "Beta" instructions, i have not tested it but really want too.

1. Buy iPhone, sign up for the 2 year contract.

2.Wait EXACTLY 30 days, no soon, no later. On the 30th day, call up
AT&T and cancel your service, but call them when your nearest Apple & AT&T
store is closed, so you can tell them you cant return it because there closed, also you wont have to pay for the second month.

3. There will be 2 charges, the ETF, and the first month of service, but apple will refund you the $36.00 activation fee.
So $300(16GB) + 175(ETF) + $70(Monthly bill) = $545 before taxes.

Can anyone try if this works? :apple:

Full price of the device is more than $200. I suspect it would be more like $599 for the 8 gig model.

what does ETF mean? early termination fee? They would probably unactivate your iPhone3G so you cant even use as ipod etc,,

No, they don't. The phone is already activated, they'll cancel your service. If they even try ****ing with my phone after I pay them the $175 fee PLUS the last bill, they'll remember me by a first name basis.
