Canceling Personal Pickup Order?

If i placed an order for an iPhone 5 for personal pickup, and lets say tomorrow i change my mind and cancel the order, would they just release the phone for walk-in customers? Would this "release" be instantaneous?

That's how I bought my 9 iPhone 5s so far. I would reserve with personal pickup, at the store cancel the pickup, and immediately buy it device-only.

Of course this practice is no longer allowed. Well technically you can still cancel the pickup, you can't buy it device-only anymore. This is to stop scalpers.
