Ok so I need some help. I’m contemplating to cancel my pre-order if the iPhone X becomes available at an Apple store near me, but I want to make sure I do it without screwing myself and be left with no iPhone. My current delivery date is Nov 17 - 24, with AT&T Next. What should I do?

1.- Cancel my order as soon as an iPhone becomes available and then order one for store pick up.

2.- Order an iPhone X for in-store pick up using a different line and then when I get to the Apple store confirm that the phone is available cancel my order and upgrade my actual line.

3.- Risk it and go to the Apple store and once I confirm they have my phone then cancel my pre-order.

The only thing I worry about is that I’ve heard that once the pre-order is canceled through Apple, it can take up to 24 hours for my upgrade (installment plan) to be reverted, I don’t want to cancel it and then the store is out of phones when my upgrade is back on my line =/ can it really take that long?

This morning I noticed my local stores had the phone in stock so I quickly cancelled my wife’s order that was scheduled for 17-24. It took a few minutes for the systems to update so I could order on the same line but after 3 min had no issue placing the order. Picked up the phone this afternoon!

If you have another line you can order it on I don’t see the harm in that though. I almost ordered my wife’s on my line since I already got mine delivered yesterday but then the system reset.

Good luck!

Same boat here. I went in yesterday morning and got a reservation for a pickup later in the afternoon for an AT&T phone (also got a verizon) mid-day, I cancelled my apple.com AT&T x pre-order and when I went in to the store about 1 hour later, all was good. picked up the AT&T model (unlocked apparently) and the verizon model. In the end, I will most likely keep the verizon model.

1. By the time the model you want becomes available at your local Apple Store, chances are that your order might be prepared to ship. Quite possible that you may expect sometime this coming week or the following.

Apple typically on the safe side tell you 24 hours. Some have reported that after they cancelled the pre-order online, they got their upgrade back in 5 minutes or so. But of course at your own risk and judgement.
