$600+etf,, was he just scaring me?? or do i jst settle my bill & pay the ETF then keep the fone :) .. has anyone done this before?

You pay for the remainder of the month + $175 - $5? for each month you have paid already. No $600 fee unless you have a few lines.

Wrong. They're probably charging him/her for the remaining cost of the phone since it was subsidized with a 2 year contract, the ETF and whatever else they wanted to toss in there. That's a move LA Celluar (now AT&T) pulled on me 10 years ago.

No? Your paying the ETF on the contract so that doesn't make sense.

The ETF is for the service only not for the phone. Sounds like if you cancel the contract you also have to pay the remainder of the subsidized fee of the phone.

That's what ETFs are for, to cover the subsidized cost of the phone. You're basically paying back the discount on the phone over the 2 year contract. Breaking the contract means you have to pay back the subsidy. It shouldn't be $600, iPhones aren't that expensive.

Its not 600. You pay the etf and bill only, as long as its been over 30 days. If its under you pay no etf and have to return the phone.

A $175 fee on top of a $200 phone doesn't add up to the $600 retail price.

if its after 30 days, the just charge you the remaining balance and the etf.
before 30 days you have to return the phone or pay the unsubsidized price, and your remaining balance.

i was in this situation in august , now might be in it again in december.

Yes, they are that expensive. Here they cost 499€ ($634) or 599€ ($761) with taxes but they are not subsidized. In other countrys where the phone can be bought non-subsidized it costs about the same.
