Hi all,

I'm from the US and will bve travelign internationally the first week of July (over to Australia). I was thinking I would unlock my 3g (I'll have my 4g by then) and use that with an Australian SIM while there. Unfortunately, I am on 3.1.3 so there's not a way to unlock it yet. I'm hoping that someone is waiting in the wings with an ios4 unlock to be released before I leave.

If not, can I take my iphone to a mobile carrier in Australia and have them unlock it for me?

No carrier can unlock your iPhone.
Instead, use a carrier in Australia that sells iPhone.

You may be able to software unlock your 3G by July.

Nope, no carrier will unlock a us iPhone.

Where did you get info from? Mind confirming it?

I know that Australia carrier do unlock iphone but i am not sure how long it will take. Some people from UK (which also unlock your iphone) needs to wait 3-4 weeks to unlock. Staff at Vodapone asked if i need to unlock my phone while i was there but i said no cause i am factory unlocked. I asked if they can do this and she said yes.

You can do a s/w jailbreak and unlock. It's a pretty easy DIY project. Plenty of videos on YouTube to show you how.

That happens in most places but not with a US iphone.
No US iphone can be unlocked. AT&T will not unlock any iphones and other carriers cannot unlock another carriers iphone.
Like if you bought an iphone on Vodaphone you cannot bring it to O2 to have them unlock it. Only the company that sold you the phone.
