I am running mac osx 10.6.8 and Im trying to access my "hosts" folder. When I type /private/etc/hosts into the Go To Folder, and window pops up and says "The folder “hosts” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.". I have tried repairing disk permissions with no success. Any ideas?

It isn't a folder, it's a file. That's why you can't go to it via Finder's go to folder function.

I can, but I am on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

I use this line of "code" in the Go To Folder menu
Code:
/private/etc/hosts
and schwuppsidaisy I get this:

And that is probably due to me having hidden files visible. I guess.

Nope, I can still go to the ETC folder when I disable hidden files, but since the hosts file is hidden, I cannot see it.
