iPod touch cannot access itunes store in my country??

hello,
i just got a 2nd gen 8gig touch three days ago and everthing has been fine except tonight i tried to access itunes on it and the following message appears:

"cannot connect to the itunes store: the itunes store is not supported in this country"

i'm not sure what to do considering i'm pretty sure the itunes store is supported in the US =P

Are you going through a proxy server or something?
