Cannot backup contacts from Iphone 3 to itunes

Good morning!

I hope you can help me with the following situation:

- I have a iphone 3 and I cannot backup the contacts to itunes.
- This was work phone and I purchased it.
- I have been then laid off from my work
- After troubleshooting with Apple help desk for 3 days, I learned that my iphone contacts were tied up to my Outlook account at work, and because I no longer work for the company and my Outlook account has been removed and I cannot back up my contacts in my computer.
