Cannot be deleted because in use?

I have no programs running except safari and I am trying to delete a file off my computer that is from last time I logged in. I have logged out and made sure all programs were closed. Nothing it open and it is saying it is in use.

Is there anyway I can delete these files without doing it through the trash?

Where would that be? I should say i am running Tiger. There is nothing in the force quit window.

MainMenu

I use an app called MainMenu. As well a forcing empty trash, it can run all sorts of maintenance scripts etc. It's a great app.

Try rebooting, not logging out, you should then be able to delete.
