I have a PowerMac g4 with ATI Rage 128 coupled to my Dell 2407 24'' LCD. I initially connected it using the DVI port but could only get upto 1280x resolution. I could see the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel everytime it booted. I could also use the Apple+S to log on as a single user mode or apple+v for verbose boot.
To get the optimal resolution for my monitor I had to connect it using a VGA monitor and I got the full crisp 1920x1200 resolution. However, the grey screen does not show up and if I press any key, whether the c key for booting with a CD, the F8 key, the Apple+S or Apple+V during boot, the LCD goes into the powersave mode and I do not see anything.
Also I noticed that the screen saver does not display, the LCD remains black with power buttons green (not amber, so no powersave here). With the DVI, I would see my screensaver.
It seems that the LCD gets the power-on signal only when OS-X login screen appears, so I miss out the initial boot period. This makes it impossible to have a dual boot with linux, which I would like to do. Does anyone know any workarounds?
