Same thing happened to me on my Verizon iPhone, I guess we wait a bit.

The assumption is it's Apple's servers but here's their support article for activation issues. Keep trying! :)

Jesus, this has been a screwed up week for my Apple experience. First, 10.8.5 borked my Mac Pro and I had to reinstall the entire ML OS. Now - 4 hours after installation of 10.7 - I cannot get my f@# king iPhone activated. Apple is really asleep at the wheel.

So is your phone not working at all? I'm having fits with my iPad and I'll probably wait on my iPhone 5, as I can't have it DOA.

First the download on iTunes failed after about half of it was downloaded. Second time it downloaded, but then iTunes said it couldn't verify the package. I disconnected my iPhone (4S) and turned it off, then connected it back to iTunes where it FINALLY installed the OS by doing a restore. That was hours ago and now I cannot get past the activation screen. It keeps failing to connect to the server either by wifi or from within iTunes.

I've been using Apple products since the early 1990s and this is the worst experience I've ever had with the company.

Same thing has occurred to me as well. I used the cell connection instead of wifi, and that allowed me to activate my phone.
