On my Macbook (OSX Lion 10.7) I have samba sharing on :

System Settings -> File Sharing ON -> Windows sharing ON

my home folder shared only as my userid.

When I connect my Android (Samsung Galaxy S2 with 2.3.3),
NO Android app (AndSMB, ES File Manager, Astro, etc. ) connects with my Mac unless I share the folder anonymously (which is not desired).
When I connect any Android app over SMB with a Ubuntu Linux SMB server it connects flawlessly. And from the other way, when I connect a Ubuntu Linux or Windows PC with my Mac it connects flawlessly.

Is this a known Android or Lion issue ?

I have the exact same issue. I can with ES explorer from my Android connect to windows shares without any issues. I can connect to my Lion server with SMB as long as I have guest access. I cannot however access my Lion Server from android using SMB with authentication.

Currently I've set up an FTP server on my server and that works more or less fine, but I would prefer SMB if it's possible.

Anyone having a solution for this?

Mounting a OSX 10.8 SMB shared folder on Android

Have had the same problem and tried almost all android file explorers. FX file explorer with the Network extensions works. Don't ask me how. But I can confirm it does the job.:)
