Cannot create guest account

Hi!

I'm trying to create a guest account via the Accounts preference pane. I want to use the guest setting that clears everything when they log out.

When I click on the check box to enable it, I get the pinwheel forever. Then System Prefs quits responding. After that, every app I try to launch quits instantly.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried repairing permissions first?

Try holding down option>>P>R and start up

can you tell me what this does and why I would need to do it please?

It resets the PRAM and NVRAM. Basically, it resets many of the system settings back to default.
